Noosaville Apartments

I get the flowing facade, emulating the line of the tide and the rhythms of nature, that's all well and good, but exactly what purpose does the little wavy bit hanging from the blind serve?

No risk of fires
I rather like the thought of having a fire hydrant in my living room.

Sunset Surf
I know I have published this previously on my Postcards Blog but I rather like the way the very pink sky reflects off the sand!

Coming In
On the other hand, coming back only needs skill, balance, and a strong hand on the sweep oar. In big seas, this can be really fun to watch!

Going Out
Rowing out, even in a small sea, requires strength, balance and a good deal of effort.

Where old surfboats go to die
With two halves of an old surfboat, one can make two awnings, one over the main entrance, and one over the craft store.

Subtle and professional
Bottom line - they're an accounting firm.
Get it?
Yes, I thought so. Subtle aren't they?

No, we're not in Amsterdam, if we were, this wordless advertisement for living room furniture may well be seeking to purvey other services.

What a pity to have expended so much time, effort and money, to find one's monster sign accidentally albeit so deliciously transposed with one's neighbour.

Happy Birthday Mr Three
Of course we're missing him heaps, and we'd love to be back at the beach playing on the swings next to the Surf Club, but we can still wish him Happy Birthday!

Signs of our times
Last month's supergraphics series ended with a billboard. A sign of our times so to speak, so here's a series of the overkill that is fashionable shop signage at the moment.
While there are no prizes for guessing the nature of this shop, it's not actually a gymnasium, but a place which sells gym equipment.

Wrong footed
I'm not sure whether it's caused by nuclear proliferation or genetically modified food, but when people start to put their feet on back to front, it needs to be stopped.
I'm glad I'm not this person's dance teacher.

Point Perry
Now here's a place just to stand and watch the ocean, or, if you wish, wait for the passing throng of whales wending their way north for winter on the Barrier Reef, or South to the Antarctic, depending on when you are here.
And all the while you're only a stone's throw from a great cup of coffee, or breakfast at the surf club.

South to Coolum
For the geographically challenged, if the ocean is on your left, you are looking south. If further description is necessary: I took this shot on the beach!

Erosion
Recent heavy seas have left much of the primary dune eroded, and access is more challenging that it is during more stable times on the beach.

Lifeguards
It's a fairly open stretch of beach, and the lifeguards have a little comfort as they watch over bathers.
This station is manned by professional lifeguards daily, not to be confused with the volunteer surf Lifesavers who do a sterling job on weekends and during school holidays.

Pig Face
Just why this succulent is known as Pigface remains a mystery. As the "leaves" mature they turn an even green colour, and the purple flower is almost spectacular.
The juvenile plant is spectacular in its own right I think.

On top of the Dune
If we can resist the urge to scamper down the dune, there is so much to see, new life, flotsam, signs of living creatures. The dunes are constantly moving and hold no moisture, yet plants manage to survive and even thrive.

The First Dune
We've come out of the thicket and climbed the first dune, the planting thins out to reveal the blue beyond.
At this point, instinct tells us to run. Run over the top and down the other side to the water!

Casuarina
The journey to the beach on any undeveloped stretch of coastline is a perfect example of the art of seduction.
A winding pathway in soft sand through the she-oaks dampens the sound of footsteps. We are walking in silence but for the whispering of the breeze through the branches and the pounding of the waves on the sand beyond the dune.
Occasionally the breeze brushes aside a branch to reveal the merest glimpse of the ocean beyond.
We're nearly there!

On any Sunday, the beach is a popular spot at Perigian, because development is low key, and there's live music at the Surf Club, finding a spot to park is problematic.

Return to the Dicky
I really want to return to the wreck of the Dicky at sunrise and take some really special long exposure shots in the surf, but since I'm in France right now, that's going to have to wait, and you'll have to make do with these midday shots!
