Eumundi Surfboard

Was once a hall of some description, now a house.

With a surfboard for decoration.

Eumundi House

Just a house. Harking back to times gone by, but the clear timber is a giveaway. No self respecting old-timer would have left timber exposed to the elements like that.

There is a curious conflict among some of the house "restoration" crowd which involves stripping off the history which is documented in the layers of paint and render, to expose the materials in their raw state. But the builders knew better originally, and always protected the materials with thick paint.

Once again I digress, timber houses on stumps with metal roofs are our vernacular form of residential architecture, or were, until the concrete slab came along in the nineties.

Didgeridoo
Eumundi Markets

I am not sure what the collective noun for didgeridoo is, a forest perhaps?

Whatever it is, I'm sure I can see a bamboo tent post hiding in their among the instruments!

Need a drink?

Saturday is market day at Eumundi, and this fellow was running by quite early in the morning.

I've never been one for jogging, and certainly don't have any attributes which would justify me doing so half naked. Some people seem to spend an awful lot of time getting the right amount of sun, exercise and finding the right brand of sunglasses.

I don't, which I suppose is why I'm more comfortable taking photographs than being in them, but couldn't help but smile as this poor tortured soul laboured past the front of the bottle shop signage.

Lights
Eumundi Markets

These lanterns were sold at the Eumundi markets by a couple who have just moved back to Korea, apparently they are based on a Korean tradition with paper, I know little more after my brief conversation but if you have one of them at your place I guess it's now a collector's item!

Harley

I must confess that my ideal a motorcycle involves windy roads and lightning fast responses. This does not reflect my ideal!

Book Shop Wall

Everything old is new again.

Well actually it's still old, but in a new situation. The new book shop wall of re-used timber has just a lovely subtle texture and patina without being overtly "aged", but is it really reclaimed timber, or new work artificially aged?

I really, was torn as to whether I would post this photo, after all, it's just seven horizontal lines of nothing. Let's see if it raises as much controversy as say, a Jackson Pollock painting!

Colours

If you wear clothes from this shop, you'll stand out in the crowd, unless of course you are shopping inside it, in which case you will become near invisible!

Cafe View

Looking out under a torn awning from the Art Cafe on the corner, a glimpse of a timber "Queensland" vernacular house.

Blonde

It's been a few days since the redhead appeared here, I suspect my theory about them breeding is correct. This one is definitely a new reproduction rather than an antique (a shamtique?).

Lifestyle catalogues free. I know they publishers describe them as "magazines" but even the editorial is a not too thinly disguised sales pitch.

The Resort Lifestyle is what we are all sold. Chairs that need beautiful people to lie on them, they don't look anywhere near as lovely with me reclining on the cushions.

Red Head

There's a plethora of these mannequins around of late, looking too retro to be real. Has someone raided an old department store warehouse, or is China creating a new fashion wave?
