Skywatch
Beach House Iconography

They're all here, the timber battens, the "fibro" walls, the corrugated roofing, the traffic cones on the roof..... ....

They can only have fallen from the sky, there's no other explanation.   To see if this theory is correct, it may pay to check out other  Skywatch photos here!

Timeless

I suspect that at one time, everything in this photo was once considered to be timeless.  Conservative design is often thought to be "timeless" when it is undertaken, colours of a certain genre (beach colours!); yes - timeless as well.  Blue cars?  Fashionably unfashionable - a colour that will never date.

Timelessness is a state of being I think, which goes from new, through bland, before it becomes ugly, then "modern" and therefore trendy.

Where is this little lot up to?

Pretty building site

Construction sites are so colour co-ordinated these days with their dust proof clothes and coloured scaffold accents, highlit perhaps with a matching crane.

The Spot

I was always led to believe that "X" marked the spot, so I started a lifelong search.  When I finally found it, it was just the wrong way up a carpark exit ramp.

What were they thinking?

I'm fairly sure that the designers of this building didn't set the window up to reflect the power pole opposite, but it does.   It's interesting I have to admit, not pretty, but perhaps it's art!

See yourself.

Even reflections of the urban context can be quite interesting to the observant pedestrian.  I love the "greenliness" in this glass, and the distortion which reminds me of fairground mirrors from a time long gone.

A better example

Around the corner from the Police Station, a building on the Esplanade gives us an example of how reflections are supposed to look in a facade!

There are many who are detractors of reflective glass, and I suppose I have to admit it does have a few ...err... issues, but it can be quite photogenic.

Freedom

I was standing in the carpark opposite this building, focussing on the reflections when I realised the little blue sign read "Police Only".

Then it occurred to me that in many other "free" countries, I would have been at best chastised for standing and taking a photograph of Police Headquarters.  Thankfully this doesn't happen in Maroochydore, and I am free to observe the drabness and general unkempt demeanour of the whole place, and feel sympathetic towards those who work within.

Even the sky and tree force their reflections (and that's not water by the way) outwards through grubby glass and a dirt stained facade.  Surely a tiny budget for an annual clean isn't asking too much of the government to give those that work within a little pride in their workplace?

But for all that, I grateful that I am free to write this as well!

Clutter by Design

Viewed in isolation, one could say that someone had "a really good try" at hiding the air conditioning plant on the top of this building.   Sadly when seen in the context of the whole building I think I'd prefer to see the plant room!

It does make an interesting photo though.

More Clutter

There is no doubt that aerial transmission of power is not a beautiful thing.  Some developers and building owners take it on themselves to pay the cost of running power underground and the benefit to the streetscape is enormous.

Some don't.

Clutter

Can you count the traffic lights in the picture? I can see nine, but including those out of view there are at least fourteen sets at these two intersections, including the one which suggests that headless persons should perhaps not attempt to cross.

At what point in time do the traffic people start to think about whether there's a better way?

One wonders how the planners allow it!

Texture Skywatch

I've probably milked this one sunrise a bit far, but indulge me one last time.   I can't find words to describe the textures that appear only briefly, but I often stand in awe with my eye racing between the prickly water, the saw toothed horizon and the cracks in the clouds.    Thank goodness for photographs so that we can hold the moment for just a little longer!

Paint Job

At first glance one could be excused for thinking this truck has one of those fancy flame paint jobs favoured by the "Street Machine" crowd, but alas, it hasn't.   The ravages of salt air and too much UV light have taken their toll on the clear top coat of the metallic paint.  Like the rust lines creeping their way down the side of the car in the background, this is just a reminder of the harshness of the climate in which we live.

Waiting for the rush

It's barely daylight, and the coffee shop is empty, but in just a few minutes the smell of coffee and fresh pastry will pervade, and the cyclists and joggers will arrive to mix with the sleepy ones staggering in for their "heart starter".

Ready for a surf, but there are no waves.  Sadly for many there won't be much surf action today.  Surfers don't seem to mind rising before the sun, even if there's nothing to do except watch the day begin.

Seasons Greetings Revisited

Exactly two years ago I posted a photo entitled "Seasons Greetings" and while it may sound harsh of me I've staked the place out ever since to try to get a photo of the illuminations at work.   Despite the lights having been permanently in position all that time, they've failed to make an appearance in the two intervening Christmas Holiday Seasons and at every other festive occasion as far as I can tell.  I never gave up on them though, and just a few nights ago was rewarded with the faintest glimmer of joy from one of the stars.

If you look very very carefully, perhaps with a magnifying glass, you will see half a dozen lights struggling for life in the bottom of the star.   Thank goodness the Fish Market Produce is much more reliable than its festive decoration!

Low Tide

I suspect that low tide was invented so people could have somewhere to stow their sailing gear when they were not actually on the water.

Had enough.

When it's time to go home, there's no need to carry the gear if you know how to walk with the kite flying.

If you don't, it can be quite a bother really.
