Many millions of dollars of real estate on the Noosa River appears to be unoccupied for much of the year. Absentee owners from southern (colder) climates visit occasionally, or move in for winter.

Chopper

The rescue chopper patrols the beaches as well as being called on for marine rescue and other emergency evacuation work.

I can never decide which shutter speed to use when photographing helicopters. I think the blade is too "still" in this shot, but never mind, at least we can see the red navigation light.

A visiting friend of mine wouldn't go into the water once, after I told him the red (navigation) light was a warning that there were sharks out there! (oops!)

Rescue Board

Viewed from half way up the stairs on first point, hence the leafy foreground, a young lifesaver catches a wave on a rescue board. These aren't surfboards for standing on, note the hand grips along the sides, and they have substantially more bouyancy to hold up the weight of any additional "passenger'.

Miss Melissa

Sadly yet another grounding of a fishing vessel this week, resulting in the loss of a life.

Apparently the crewman fell overboard in gale conditions, while the rest of the crew slept below, unaware until the boat steamed into the surf on Mooloolaba Beach.

This is the same ocean and same beach that seems so refreshing and calm on most days, and this picture was taken yesterday after the swell has had two full days to subside.

Just like Autumn or "Fall"!

So here I am in the Alexandra Headlands Surfclub carpark one evening, and I wonder what's wrong with what I'm seeing.

We don't have deciduous trees to speak of, yet it looks as though they've all "turned". The yellow streetlighting has a lot to answer for in this photo, which has only had the lightest colour adjustments one can imagine. Quite surreal really.

The sun has long departed, the lights are on, it's quite cool, yet some holiday makers still persist in staying in the water as a lone ski paddler calls it a day after training.

The first point is Alexandra Headland, and if you look carefully, the lighthouse can be seen on Pt Cartwright to the left.

Old Motel

This old Motel in Hastings Street Noosa, patiently awaits redevelopment, decked out in humiliating blues and greens to "modernise" it in the meantime.

As a member of the original documentation team for this development, I can say with some authority that it's been there since the mid seventies, which probably gives some idea of just how old a building has to be before it's thought of as "old" here!

When I set out to publish one photo per day, I deliberately tried to stay away from archetypal post card shots. Occasionally I slip up, but it's a bit hard to avoid them, even photographed in the middle of the day, which every expert warns against, the place looks reasonably attractive!

Good Neighbours

One wonders what the owners of the boatshed think about the multi-million dollar house next door. I suspect that it does nothing to harm the value of their property!

The area is very new and many architectural styles are fighting for dominance. The clean white and natural timber look prevails for the time being, but there is a good deal of opposition.

Noosa is renowned for it's conservation policies, which result in a lot of green space and instances of buildings taller than the tree lines are rare.

Bikeways

Where defined bikeways don't exist, it's quite acceptable to use the footpaths rather than risk life and limb on the roads. the observant will notice that the roads are lined with medium to large cars, mostly of Japanese origin.
