But I want a pointy fence

I'm certain that if historical accuracy was important, the palings on the left would have been closer to original, although I'm fairly sure they'd have been painted white.

Actually if historical accuracy was important, my guess is that there would not have been a fence!

Texture

This rather eclectic mix of finishes represents a sample of just about every material that is synonymous with modern coastal architecture.  It's sort  of like a building display centre rolled into one project.

Eccentric

I heard someone recently surmise that Australians don't like eccentricity, but craziness is quite OK, and I think I'd have to agree with that.  Whatever the case, I like the shops in Yandina.

The Pool

Summer in the seawater pool at King's Beach.

I had to resist the urge to jump in!

Race or Rescue?

The racing ski had it's origins as a rescue craft, but now racing versions are every bit as sophisticated in design and construction as an Olympic Kayak.  This one is having a rest before the afternoon's training session.

The Search

In the cool of the late afternoon the hordes descend on the rocks.  I have no idea why or what they look for every afternoon, but whatever it is I often join them in the search and never find it.

I do

Do promise to hold this dress, and this tablecloth, and this book and this......   Fortunately the wind kept at bay for the duration of the ceremony.

Outdoor, beach front, rock top weddings are for genuine thrill seekers!

Light and shade

The late afternoon sunlight is so bright that the palm trees reflect it as though made of stainless steel, or perhaps the railings are reflecting as though they were made of Alexandra Palm.  Either way, I quite like the effect.

Smile!

It's as though when I pull out my camera they all turn their backs to me in some sort of silent protest.

Swimmers

I love the chaos and the colour at the beach, nd the fact that no one is ever facing the camera no matter how many people are in the shot.

That's my boat!

Actually it's someone else's boat, or what's left of it..... sadly there have been more than a few boats completely destroyed by floods and cyclones in the last month or so.

Sea Textures 3 of 3

The patterns on the face of the waves are almost as though they are trying to mimic the beach.   I admit it, I'm fascinated by them.

Sea Textures 2 of 3

Perhaps I could have titled this post "ways to waste an entire day", because I could easily sit watching the waves for that length of time!

Sea Textures 1 of 3

I love the yellow tint appearing in the wave, evidence that the ocean is still full of flood.

After the floods

After last months floods, the rocks were distinctly brown.  Even the sea smelt of flood, but they soon returned to their friendlier green-black.

Patina

Very occasionally, lack of maintenance works wonderfully well.

Is there a prize for 'best aged newish structure'?

Recurring Theme

Is it "desperately seeking patina", or a "could do better" mark for the maintenance crew?

Fountain

Technically it's a water play device, but in a land where mostly it doesn't rain, fountains are a bit thin on the ground.   Actually most have been switched off and turned into dry sculptural pieces, and even this one has it's days of being rostered off.

On a busy day it would have been impossible to take a photograph without getting squirted, and yesterday it was difficult enough to time my dashing in and out between the somewhat random shots appearing out of the ground, but it's a fun way to find a theme photo.

City Daily Photo bloggers from around the world are photographing fountains today. Click here to view thumbnails for all participants
