Show and Shine
These events used to be called show and shine, but with the advent of the 'Rat Rod', there's not always a lot of shine to be had.
Younger folk just don't seem to be interested in all that cleaning!

Haven't we been here before?
Yes indeed, it's the very same view that we started this month with, except there are no markets. Instead we've been invaded by hot rods and street machines. Six hundred of them apparently, lining the main street and a few others to boot.
And the crowds seemed to appear from nowhere.
Sadly for those who are not car buffs, a sprinkling of photographs from this event will certainly pop up from time to time during the course of the coming months!

Planter
If one looks carefully enough one can see that these things seem to work quite well as furniture, but closer inspection will reveal the sad truth about their success as planter boxes. Ahh.

Skylight
The trouble with building skylights here is that by the time one is done with sufficient shading to allow the air conditioning to function correctly there's not all that much light from the sky coming in!
But the bit that does, does a great job!

Shadow patterns
I can almost hear the yawns from here, but I do so love the shadows cast on the roof structure by the patterned glass.

The shops
It's early in the morning so I thought I'd sneak a photo of Sunshine Plaza before the security blokes turned up and gave me what-for.
A sensible young man would front up to Centre management and ask for permission to photograph I suppose.
Maybe next year.

..nemas
Another gratuitous shadow shot I'm afraid. When architects talk about texture and shadow and what will be, don't leave the pergola off... build it to plan and enjoy it!

There it is!
We did find that elusive entry eventually, and couldn't help but note how welcoming the signage was. It said "Welcome" right there above the list of seven things prohibited (including cameras - but not apparently telephones.)

Desperately seeking entrance.
The other day we did the unthinkable. We WALKED to Sunshine Plaza!
OK to be fair, our car was being serviced and we thought we'd while away the time by taking in a movie, after all look at the weather, it was a great day for being indoors!
There was a problem though. Sunshine Plaza is very large and if you are not wheeled it's quite difficult to find a place of entry. Every arrow leads to a car parking place.

Shadow puppets.
Ok they aren't puppets, but if you look carefully, half of what appears to be tree is actually shadow. I love it when a plan comes together! Of course it was deliberate!

And finally....
It's probably time I went home and put the camera away for another day.
Same view as yesterday, except without the clouds and the rain and there's a sunset.

Neigbourly
An empty building awaiting new tenants, of course you wouldn't want anyone to park there!
Or perhaps they just don't want their bin stolen.

Makeover
A few years ago, I posted a photo of this hapless (at that time) building, which seemed to have had no love for years.
All that has changed. While it was once merely fronting a golf course, that has now gone and the construction work behind is actually the new Maroochydore CBD. What price a neat new office?

Once upon a time...
Once there was a golf course right there beside the drain. Now it is being billed as the world's only green fields CBD. That's Central Business District, but exactly what it's central to I am not sure.
Time (and a lot of it I suspect) will tell if this really will grow into a vibrant business centre, or whether it will just fade into yet another suburban hub.

Redundancy
Sometimes our propensity to put signs on things amazes me. Surely if one had seen the eaves, one would know it was low.
If on the other hand, one hadn't seen it and had bumped one's head, one would only have to look up to have the question "What was that?" answered.

Damage in the dark.
The big storm may not have eventuated, but there was plenty of darkness about, and super high tides which brought the beach up and over the park, a bit like tucking it under a warm doona for the night really.

Dodging a Bullet
The weather systems were set a week ago, to deliver a monster storm. There seemed to be nothing for it but to batten down the hatches and wait.
Thankfully for us, it petered out a bit, doing extensive damage further south, but leaving us with nothing but forty or so millimetres of rain per day for a few days, and the odd bit of wind.

Ciggies.
For my smoking friends in other places, when we say plain packaging and heavily taxed, we mean it.
This is a cigarette display cabinet, and it is pushing the limit of the law I think, because it does use acronyms to describe some of the product within, but I have to say that at $30-$40.00 per packet I am not tempted.

Alright then, it's not that cold, and it's not that wet, but it is a little bit miserable.

My precious...
Ahh, crystals... No, there is no science to show that inert chemicals, like rocks have any healing power whatsoever, so don't buy them if you think they'll help your warts go away.
BUT... just looking at pretty things makes me feel better I have to say!

Look Carefully.......
There's nothing like coming home with fresh bread to make a trip to the market feel like a trip to the market. Curiously though, if you look carefully, our health regulators insist that the product is kept behind glass, "sneeze guards" they are called.
I suppose one should remain eternally grateful that one can be certain that one's bread has not been sneezed on particularly as the first of the Westerly winds bring new bouts of hay fever, but it's much nicer "more markety" just piled up on a trestle table!

Mozzie Coils
Nothing says summer like the curl of smoke from a mosquito coil wafting it's way across a dining table. Thank goodness insect screens have become affordable enough so that most houses (which aren't air-conditioned) are insect free (more or less) these days.
Still, if you have the need to burn a coil for old time's sake, you can get these swish bejewelled mozzie shaped holders in the Bulcock Street Markets.

Well they WERE nasty things that dropped leaves on cars I suppose. So what if some of them were a little rotten at the core, surely the odd near death experience or flattened car from a falling tree is a small price to pay for the loveliness they imbued !

Going, Going......
There is a slight but ever so important difference between this photograph and yesterday's.
You can see it in the sky... there is a certain absence of tree on one side of the street. How lovely!

Coming soon - more highlights less shadow.
Bulcock Street in Caloundra has been one of my favourite streets on the Sunshine Coast, with its Avenue of overhanging figs, but all that is changing as the next few day's posts will attest.
Enjoy the highlights and shadows while you can.
This is one of many theme day posts, you can see lots more at http://cdpbthemeday.blogspot.com.au.
