Pee Wee
I have no idea why the Magpie Lark is known only as a Pee Wee in our state, it's one of those regional curiosities whose origins have been lost in the depths of time.
But here, is a Pee Wee, sitting on a fence. Actually it isn't sitting, more balancing on (although it isn't clear) its solitary leg.

I grew up - in New South Wales - referring to this little character as a pee wee. It is only in the past 10 years of living in Victoria that I have heard the name mudlark used. I didn't know that Queenslanders still used the term. All very weird.
It's quite a distinctive looking bird. I've seen birds of various kinds do that balancing thing here as well.
