La Balsa Park
In November 1970 a raft carrying a crew of somewhat intrepid explorers, arrived from South America and landed at Mooloolaba. This pretty park near the point of the landfall has been named in commemoration of the Raft and the expedition:- La Balsa
Just over that ridge is the ocean, the beach and rocks below Pt Cartwright that I've been posting pictures of for the past month. Behind me is the river mouth, and all of that might be a nice tidy way to bring this series to a close.
What's next? Buildings? People? Flowers?
Tune in tomorrow to find out!

The idea was based on Thor Heyerdahls Kon tiki expedition but Kon tiki drifted across the Pacific and sunk halfway, or crashed on the reefs, whereas La Balsa crossed the entire Pacific TWICE and steered its way. 1st one landed in Mooloolabah (hence the beach's name) and second three rafts landed in Ballina. One is still there in the museum but noone thinks to promote this as a tourist attraction. It is an incredible story... read more here
