Pandanus

Pandanus on the beach.  I wonder if I start to carry my camera around again will the sun come out?

That tower

Usually when I photograph the lookout tower at Dicky Beach, I have to squint because of the bright sun reflected off the sand.

Blurring what a camera can be. Moffat Beach

Unable to gather sufficient photos to get me through the coming six months, this "Daily" blog will become bi-weekly for at least that time.   As you read this I am already well on my way to a place far from here!

Day two of my experiments with the new phone, and I'm already beginning to wonder whether I'm game to cut down my carry-on luggage by a few more kilos!

The New Phone goes to Moffat Beach

Unable to carry the weight of a camera for a time, and needing a new phone, well I went to the top shelf didn't I?  Here is one of the first photos I took with it, part of a panorama in difficult light conditions.  Forget the composition, I was really just trying to get bits of light and shadow into the shot.   I'm not a new phone kind of guy, but let's just say I'm impressed.

Broke, but impressed.

A Night in Hospital

It's been a while, and perhaps some will be relieved to discover it may be a while longer until normal posting resumes.    I do want to apologise for the concern I caused some by allowing this blog to go "dark" immediately following the publishing of the hospital carpark photo in March, and thank you to all who contacted me to enquire as to my well being.  The photo was an unintentional portent of things that were to come.

I am indeed quite well after a lengthy but perfectly normal recovery from a bit of surgical correction which has left me rather without photographs to share.

To make matters worse it's left me without my usual catalogue which enables me to post daily while on our annual migration to the other side of the world.

I have gathered a scattering of photos over the past few weeks as mobility has improved, and if I eke them out we may well have a bi-weekly blog until our return from places other than this one.

Thank you for your understanding. Hopefully we'll resume full transmission some time in November.

Well that's the plan!

Another Car Park

My first visit to the new Sunshine Coast University Hospital carpark, left me with a few good impressions.

As these things go, it's not expensive at five dollars for the first hour and a bit, at least at the time I was there, finding a spot was easy, and for those who are used to large hospitals in the middle of urban areas, this one is a kilometre or so from the beach and is bound on the opposite side by dense bushland.  There's not much to add about population density on the coast!

Busy 2

It's not the first time I've published a photo from the Home Centre in Birtinya, but it is the first time the monster carpark have been anything near full.

Perhaps it's the new big box hardware store that's brought the crowds, or perhaps they were just out and about before the promised storm.   In any case, the landscaping (well the trees at least) are starting to make their presence felt.  In a year or two it won't be a forest, but there'll be shade for the early birds.

Busy

The Sunshine Coast University Hosptial is open for business and it looks the part too - all hospital like and well it looks busy enough even if it's all squeaky clean and happy inside.   I wonder though at the need for a big red "Emergency" pole just a few tens of metres from the hospital.   What sort of emergency would require pressing the button just there, as opposed to knocking on the front door?

Perhaps someone who knows about these things will enlighten me.

.Thy neighbour's surfboard

Our neighbour has a neat little business making beach showers using old surfboards as a backing, so we never know what is going to be peeking over the fence.

Spider Lily

Today I had little more to do that to wonder why Hymenocallis littoralis is called "the spider lily".   I've counted the legs, and they don't match.

Perhaps the spiders in its native Latin America are actually insects.

"Play"

Today's theme day topic wasn't even a challenge.   This is why we live where we live, the smile on our grandchildren's faces when they make it all the way in to shore!

I can jump puddles

The rain is slowly clearing now, which is a shame really, because I've really developed a liking for the weird reflections that turn up under my car if I looks hard enough.

Well what's the collective noun for garbage bins then?

Perhaps a "surfeit"?  The six in this photo have at least another six within a similar radius.  Must be the most litter-free park in all of Buddina.

What's the collective noun for masts?

Could it be a "Muddle of Masts" perhaps?  Why is it that if these were electricity poles or telecommunications towers they'd be considered a blight, but because they are connected to boats they are romantic and scenic and photo-worthy?

Running from the rain.

One hundred and seventy mm today, another hundred expected overnight.  Everything is greening up nicely, including the webs between my toes.   Most sensible people were tucked up in their offices or watching a movie, so I got to enjoy the lull with barely any company on the road.

50mm today and another 100 tonight.  Is there any wonder I am using a photo from a few days ago?

Same stuff, different day.

This is fast becoming one of those "a view every day from the same place" kind of blogs.

Recent storm surf has left the air thick with... well thicketivity really.
