It's the light

One of our favourite things is to sit in the early evening with a warm Pizza on the wall above the floodlit beach, basking in the glow while congratulating ourselves on how lucky we are to be alive right now.

Notice how I've cleverly oh so slightly underexposed this shot for that "after sunset" look? Actually by the time I'd found that I'd posted this version of the view from the Loo with a View, it was too late to change it!

Civic Pride.

I don't understand why a town like Maleny allows it's rubbish bins to be littered with outdated concert posters, or for that matter current ones together with lots of marks where they've been.

Every bin in town has flyers and posters for events that have been (never ones that are to come strangely enough) ranging from car boot sales to concerts. To be fair to this one, it was barely a month after the event when I took this photo.

See how the previous effort had thoughtfully used blue tack to avoid damaging the paint? What a pity they didn't take the rotten stuff with them as well!

Now ain't that nice.

I've worked in offices that produced buildings like this, so I know the enormous sense of fulfilment one gets from satisfying a client's brief. I also know the enormous despondency of going past the rotten things for fifty years waiting for them to be bowled over, but they never are. Heaven forbid, in time they may even be deemed to be of historical significance and preserved in perpetuity.

The telephone exchange was once an "exchange" where operators connected callers to callees. As automation came along, equipment continued to diminish in size in a never ending spiral sadly destined to ensure that the growth of the system can be contained within the old building forever.

We can't even burn the things down.

How does one milk an almond?

It doesn't matter, because this photo is a curiosity. Did you know that if you tape a sign in your shop window that says "Almond Milk Now Available" just in front of your polished stainless steel coffee machine, at precisely the time of day when sufficient light is shining through the sign for the reflection to pick up the words, that the reflection will mimic the sign and not be reversed?

It's logical of course, but it plays with one's brain for a bit in real life.

The bright new signs are showing signs of fading even after the first year, so I thought I'd help them on their way a bit. That's much better, perhaps I am wrong. Perhaps in a year or ten the town will have softened back to its old self!

Concerns

I have expressed my concerns before at the loss of the traditional street facades in Maleny. They have almost entirely given way now to the bright modern clutter that some how works to hide the identity of the place. This is not to say they are bad, they have a certain consistency, but they are not the outcome loudly espoused by those who espoused outcomes in days gone by.

One has to arrive before the cafe opens if one wants to gain a proper appreciation of the seating arrangements.

Guests at the home of the writer may be surprised to find some little stools baring a striking but entirely co-incidental resemblance to these scattered about in the not too distant future.

Let's Eat!

The Tinker is a very cool "travelling events" van, lovingly restored by it's owners to period-perfect (or perhaps perfect in our imagination) standard.

It's for hire for functions and special events, and it's my contribution to today's theme "Let's Eat".

Stormwater Drain

I remember a time when stormwater drains were great concrete things filled with other people's chip wrappers and soft drink bottles. This is so much nicer, even if the bark keeps floating off down the river!

The swell is starting to build and with it the power of the waves and the number of cars in the carparks. Tomorrow morning I reckon I'd have to be up before dawn to get a spot.

Opal World has been under "Old" management for forty years according to the sign on the door, so the demand for ugg boots and moccasins obviously continues unabated. Perhaps it's the 100,000km or three month guarantee.

I'm Fan of this Ceiling not a Ceiling Fan

The last time I posted details of these ceiling panels fanning across the roof of the picnic shelter at Coolum, they were relatively new.

I was a little shocked I must admit to see rust creeping into all the screws, and in the stainless steel roof sheeting itself. Around here, never say forever!
