Bus Shelter

We could plant a tree and have lovely dappled shade over those waiting for the bus, or we could build a shelter in glass and paint it to make the shadows look like leaves.......  they'd get wet in the rain if it was a tree!

Arcade Games in 3D

At first I couldn't believe what I was seeing.  It looked for all the world like one of those early electronic arcade games and the yellow team seemed to outnumber the orange team by a few men as well.

Little Boxes

I really should stop publishing photos like these, they provide a dreadfully exaggerated view of the density of the coast.  Before you know it people will be taking them seriously, and there is precious little development happening as it is.

Haven't I read somewhere... yes, that's it... what comes up, must come down.   I suppose if you skip schol to go kiteboarding you don't learn that stuff!

Reflections 5

I suspect this glass balcony is much more beautiful than it was conceived to be.  Sadly the lighting is only "just right" for an hour or two each day.

Noosa Vignette 1

Walking around Noosa it is clear that a new element has come to prominence in the architectural vernacular.   There are lots of little vistas which have evolved by accident and design, view into buildings, through them and in some cases between.

The interaction of the tones of shadows on the building and those on the gum are simply sublime in real life.  This is one of those photos which simply says "you really should have been there".

Rust never sleeps

OK, it's a boring photograph, but I can't work out how the building owners managed to convince the downpipes to rust in exactly the same shade as the wall paint.   At first I thought it was careless painting!

Bike Shop

This building was built, like so many in the precinct at the time of the world wide shortage of spirit levels.   Now that I walk with a bit of a lean, I can see the sense in slanting columns!

Clear Prop

The "butterfly" roof shape is oh so fashionable but I get the shivers each time I see one, having served my time in architecture in the (late) sixties, tracking down leaks in structures like this every time in rained!

It has taken almost half a century for the industry to forget!

High rise offices

Apartments or offices, I'm not sure, but two levels and spread out so far that one needs a Segway to commute is the order of the day.

Goat Weed

When I was a child, the this flower was known as "Goat Weed" and I suspect it still is.   I does make a nice display though against the conservatively coloured office building in whose planter it seems to thrive.

Complimentary Highlights

Colour is often used to disguise a lack of sophistication in construction and design.   For that you can read "cheapness" if you wish.

Planners insist on colour schemes being incorporated into approvals, which to my mind is about as short sighted as planning can be.   The last time I remember burnt orange was "in" was over thirty years ago.   Are these buildings doomed to a circle of fashion that returns every thirty years?

Another Main Street

I have mentioned before once or twice, that our "city" is really just a collection of main streets.  This is a product of being 60 kilometres long, but the lack of amalgamation of business centres is one economic challenge which will see conflicting interests compete to the death for many a year to come.

Here is the Kawana Centre, logically placed perhaps, but vying with Maroochydore and the Nicklin Way strip for a place in the commercial world.

Sometimes, when one's "back yard" is more exposed than one would desire, one's entire life is on display for those who liek to photograph such things.

Flood Marks

That is a line of bark chips on the grass.

That is a garden on the edge of the lake devoid of any mulch, like for instance, bark chips.

In March, this area recorded 380mm of rain in a few hours one afternoon, and the lake level rose so suddenly it simply floated all the mulch ashore in a straight line.   Strange, but true.  At least it was easy to get it back on the garden.
