Same Bird Different Rock

About now he's wishing I'd just go away and let him stand there for a bit.

Jonathan Livingstone

Seagull photos usually don't score any points, but this one is frozen in space so I thought "why not"?

Bikes

The bike parking at Ettamogah is thoughtfully placed just a short stagger from the bar.

Time for a break

I was walking slowly round the rocks, too slowly to get tired, yet I felt compelled to just sit for a bit....

Wilderness

We could be anywhere on the remote coast, but just beyond those dunes lie ten thousand houses and a shopping mall.

Another illusion shattered!

Innocuous

It looks innocuous enough, but only last year a couple of people perished after falling from a little higher up.   It gets slippery you see, and there is nowhere to arrest a fall.

Who makes this stuff?

The more I wander among the rocks, the more beautiful the forms become.

Limpets

Actually they aren't limpets at all, but I really like the sound of that word, and they are clinging to the rocks so perhaps at a push we could pretend....

Mountainous Waves

So this is what mountainous waves look like.

Heading East

I guess there comes a point where there's no point in trying to keep your feet dry any more.

Looking North

I'm a sucker for just sitting on a rock and watching the waves too.

Sorry

I know I post pictures like this quite often, but I'm a sucker for the way the sky appears between the rocks.

Worth it

So you arrive at the beach, and at last you are alone.

You and your dog.....

.... and some clown in the dunes pointing his camera at your alone-ness.

Elusive

As one walks through a casuarina thicket towards the beach, there's a distinct atmosphere within the wood that I have to date been unable to capture.

Perhaps what is missing is the lack of the sound of the ocean steadily getting louder as we approach, or the soft squeak of the sand underfoot, being flicked up the back of one's legs by the heel of one's thongs, signalling it's just about time to go barefoot again.

Red Weeds

I quite like these things, they have a touch of the poinsettia about them.  I looked up what they were once, but to my shame I have forgotten.

They don't seem quite so intent on smothering the grasses as their yellow mates from yesterday though.

Yellow Weeds

They are in a revegetation area, so perhaps they have been planted deliberately, but they have that look about them that says they expect to dominate the ground cover no matter what.

Weeds

The sign is a warning about something.   Perhaps it's yellow we must be afraid of, or falling into a yellow triangle, I'm not sure, I didn't see it until I got home!

Training

Rescue board training late in the afternoon.   I've never been able to capture the subtlety of the late afternoon mist, and the faded colours it produces, but the background here comes as close as I can get!

Way up there

From below they look so far away, and I suppose they are in a sense, but these apartments do command a wonderful view over the bay.

Heading North

The mouth of the Mooloola River faces almost due north, away from the prevailing breezes and sea swell, making it one of the safest harbour entrances on the coast.

Late afternoon light makes it look a bit like an antique photograph too.

On any Sunday

The Ettamogah Pub is a terrific destination, just the right distance from anywhere to work up a thirst that needs quenching, but I worry about the trip home.

"Eye"

The "London Ferris Wheel" just doesn't sound right any more, but the "Aussieworld Eye" isn't particularly catchy either.

Perhaps it's just a Ferris Wheel after all.

Razor's Edge

I've often wondered how hard it must be to keep a ship right on the edge of the ocean like that.
