Green

The soft green algae gives the rocks at the edge of the high water mark a pillow-like texture underfoot.

It's a very slippery pillow though, so great care must be taken when walking among them!

Slot

It's not perfect, but at least with a little distance between the highrise buildings, the properties behind have a chance to see the ocean.

Fresh

You can have your hippie candles and aroma burning lanterns, I'll just sit and watch the waves on the rocks any day.

I can see the sea - 2

Having a few hilly bits gives some residents of Coolum an advantage; they can see over the tops of their neighbours.

I can see the sea.

I don't understand how overhead electricity, street signs and traffic light poles are somehow expected to become invisible.

Like the emperor's new clothes, perhaps they are only visible to those who don't believe.  Can anyone else see them?

Beach House

Some examples of post-war beach houses remain almost as they were, give or take an aluminium window replacement here and there.

No Filth

"Filth" has a number of meanings in pop culture.

Perhaps they just don't like junk mail?

On top of the bridge

The light poles are bent rather poetically, and it's rare to see them without at least one pelican sitting atop.

Something Fishy

I have been attempting to photograph the sound barriers on the bridge over the Maroochy River for a few years.   It's not an easy thing to do while driving at 100 kilometres per hour.

It's also best viewed at that speed, when the eye has little time to focus on the whole device, and the glass bits and ribs all merge together.   Whether it has any impact at all on the residents below is debatable, but someone has had a really good try!

More Bridge Art

Heavily disguised as a wall full of post-it notes, the dull ugly structure of the bridge simply disappears from view.

Doesn't it?

If the same amount of effort had been put into the design of the structure as no doubt went into convincing the authorities of the need for the decoration, the outcome here may have been worthy of note!

Bridge Art

I am not sure how I feel about some of our civil engineered "art".  In some places, modern structures are wonderfully elegant, their very forms giving pleasure to the observant.

Here, we paint the concrete green and brown and put a pattern in it and call it done!

Meanwhile over the fence...

While we've been looking westward at the Dragon Boats, there's been a football match going on in the Stadium.

If I had to make a guess as to who was having the most fun, I would not choose the people in the grandstand!

On to something else!

Now that everyone has returned safely to shore, we shall leave the Dragon Boat Championships and move on to something else.   Perhaps we've been here too long!

Watching the team

Dragon Boating is a team sport, and clubs are large with members there to support each other through thick and thin.  It's a bit hard to tell from the body language, but it was a "thick" day for the Manly crew!

Marshalling

Dragon boats have enormous numbers of crew, all of whom have to be settled into their boats in the most efficient manner, so a formal marshalling process is adopted.

Of more interest to me, is the range of athletic footwear adopted by competitors.

Finding Shade

If things have gone according to plan, thanks to the miracle of scheduling posts, I will be sitting in the sun somewhere in the early European summer when this post is published.

This is in stark contrast to where I would be sitting on a sunny day in Australia, where UV levels are never less than four or five times those that are experienced in the northern hemisphere.

Here, even the bronzed dragon boat competitors and their supporters huddle sensibly in the shade watching in the relative cool.

Enter the dragons!

Dragon Boats!  In March (was it really that long ago?) the State championships were held on the rowing course at Kawana.

For the next few days I'll attempt to give an overview of that event.

Facade!

I have heard rumours of a Police speed camera in Duporth Avenue Maroochydore, but when I found it it turns out to be a projector, set up to illuminate a sculpture piece.

So the speed camera is a fake, a facade if you would!

To seem more photographs with the theme "facade" don't forget to visit the City Daily Photo theme day links.
