A Photo Every Day from the Sunshine Coast - Australia

Maybe not quite normal..

Back to normal after the storms, except...

See that black stuff on the bags? That's oil. Part of 20,000 tons or was that 200,000 litres, no one can say, but it seems to be lots, which is being frantically removed from 60 kilometres of coastline after a shipping accident during the gales.

The bags themselves are part of a foreshore protection project at the mouth of the Maroochy River.

Maroochydore.

It looks like I really am away a few more days this time, hopefully the scheduled posts are appearing and you can read this!

Well, I hope you make the week away...sounds like there might be another cyclone developing up north!

Dreadful nuisance that oil slick, not only for the coastline, but also for the wildlife..turtles, penguins...crabs...fish..birds...the list goes on!

That certainly is an environmental catastrophe.

I can't see the oil (I'm glad, because that always makes me sick), but the photo is fantastic.

Hello from the Sunshine Coast on the other side of the world. But I think you probably get a lot more real sunshine than we do. I invite you to come see my clearing sunshine. - Margy

Them bags look a bit rock like!

What a disaster this whole oil thing is. And they haven't even found the containers of fertilizer yet. A friend of mine found an oily catfish washed up on the mouth of the Brisbane River a few days ago. I don't think I'll be getting local fish and chips for a while.

Beautiful shot, as per.

Ecological disasters like this happen all over the world and much too often. I have seen oil covered penguins in Victoria in the 50s, and we had oil sticking to our feet on a beautiful beach in Kalamatta in Greece in the 70s.
Most of these spills don't even get into the news.

The shipping disaster is a nightmare. We need international courts to be able to penalise those responsible to try and prevent further disasters like these happening again.
Enjoy your break

I hate to see spills like that. The bags look a little like rocks with black sand on them.
Have a Happy First Day of Spring (is it spring in Australia?)
