Looking South to Caloundra

On days like this the weather looks ominous, but it's not, and I can never get used to how little impact an entire city has on its coastline.   Behind those dunes there are houses.  Lots of them, but not so many that the beaches ever feel like thoroughfares, in fact one can often find oneself alone with ones thoughts.

I wonder how the next decade of growth will impact.

Art.

I can see a fish, a nautilus shell, ohh another fish and some waves.....

Well it's art, see in it what you will.

Viewing Platform

What a lovely thing council has done, providing a platform for people to stand or sit under while they contemplate the beach, the ocean, their navels.

Glimpses

One of my favourite things in all the world:  the little glimpses of light you see through the trees as you get closer to the beach.

At ride's end.

Well it's not actually the end.

He has to go home again now, but it's a satisfying thing being at the top of the hill and looking back at where you've come from.

Racing in a monochrome world

Before yachts had black sails, they were pretty much invisible in this sort of light.

It's the simple thinks that make it all worthwhile.

There's nothing like sitting on cliff top and watching the waves roll by.  One at a time.

and now a message from the Brain Dead.

The New Zealanders have a word for idiots who do stuff like this.  There's a bit of a story explaining that here.  In the meantime I hope that someone collects every possession of the perpetrator of this, and destroys them in the name of self expression.

Watertank, disguised as a Norfolk PIne with a really big butterfly on it.

I need to see what Dr Google says about butterflies that are as big as whale's dorsal fins before I make further comment.

There are some really lovely bits on this tank, or reservoir as some would call it.

Revegetation in full swing, with new plants neatly protected in their pretty pink gowns looking for all the world like a trail of lanterns lighting the way to the beach.

Beach with Poster

Beach, No Norfolk today.  Please note however, the poster is taped to the column, thoughtfully avoiding the issue of leaving lots of nasty staples and bent nails for others to discover.

Perhaps all the tape will come off in one go.

I think I have identified this pattern in my life: - Beach, Norfolk Pines, Beach, Norfolk Pines, Beach, Norfolk Pines, Beach, Norfolk Pines.

I am happy to share.

View spew

Here's the deal: You spend a million dollars on a unit with absolute ocean frontage, then the council plants some cabbage palms to take out your view, and then to be absolutely sure you won't be seeing anything else, they plant some tuckeroos for good measure too.

You become very unhappy, but I, who owns not one unit here, think the result is lovely.

Thanks very much.

Don't fence me in.

Right there on the footpath is a piece of what I assume was street art.   Either that or it's a really expensive way of stopping people sitting on the garden bed.

I'm not sure what it's significance is, I like to think it has none.

For those who live in cooler climes.

A sale of winter stock here means getting rid of the pink thongs and the orange tee shirts that keep us  so warm in the dead of winter.

No I have no idea

It started out as a view through the Norfolks of Old Woman Island (Thats' her looking like a cartoon whale).   Just why it came out of the camera looking like a piece of heat affected film, I shall never know, but I liked it so didn't fiddle.

I like Wayne Strickland's paintings, but I do wonder what was in his tea when he painted this World War One meets Pirates of the Carribean with sandcastles piece of wall wonderment.

Feature plant room.

Why why why, when one is spending a zillion dollars on a fancy wall mural to tart the place up, doesn't one make some attempt to hide the air conditioning ducts?

Why do I find this so offensive?

When Denmark was where we got our ice cream from.

A long time ago, we were led to believe that ice cream and hotdogs were a Danish invention.  That was before we travelled through Europe and discovered that it was Australian apparently, although here New Zealand ice cream seems to be the most exotic at the moment.

Who knows.  But the Danish stuff has moved to bigger and better things no doubt.

The "F" word.

The word FAT is now so politically incorrect and rude, that bikers are getting custom number plates with it spelled out.

Or does that refer to the width of the rear tyre and not his girlfriend's bottom?

Abandoned

Today's theme day is "abandoned" and in truth our built environment is so new that it's rare indeed to find anything in a state such as this.   I was expecting to have to find a photo of a lost dog, or a lonely thong lying on a beach, but instead I stumbled across an old house.

It won't be there for long, of that one can rest assured.  Shortly we'll see a lovely new cream block of flats in its place I'll wager.

Follow this link for more photographs of abandoned stuff around the world.
