On the Sunshine Coast, there's a certain irony in that it's a place where people of post-work age tend to flock to live out their days, but as the region matures and more services are needed, more families arrive which means the average age is slowly coming down. But at the same time everything is new this is not a town in which pioneers pulled bullock drays down dusty streets.
"Old" in building terms could be as few years as ten, or perhaps in the case of this rare near ruin - thirty. Without maintenance the salt in the air soon takes it's toll. But it's a beach front "mansion" so I suppose at some point it will be rebuilt bigger and better than ever.

Thirty but still ageing!
It does look like it's seen a lot of years. Salt water air, I can see it having a detrimental effect.
That is old? Kind of like Naples. The city is about 150 years old but has only really grown in the past three decades.

Everything and ourselves are constantly ageing and building like people, some crumble faster than others. The older building my way, will out last all those new builds.

Oh yeh that salty air will do it for sure, there's a lot of maintenance required when you love to live by the seaside :) So worth it though! Good choice for today Peter.
How sad that it's deteriorating so soon!
It is too bad that it is not being kept up. I grew up near the ocean, so I know the toll salt air can take. Good post for the theme.
What you describe is such a contrast to where I live in England.
I reckon buildings have to get past 60 to have a chance at a longer life ... not many in your patch get that chance.
Lucky the same doesn't apply to people :-)
