Seven Days of Wood
1 - The Post

By the beach, timber ages to a beautiful grey if you let it.  Although I've done no one a favour with the reduced size of the photographs, if your eyes are good enough you'll see a small procession of ants in profile as they march to the top of the post, which itself is sun bleached to a colour which is complimentary to the sky.

This is my contribution to the City Daily Photo Blogs theme for February:  Wood

Is this a mould I recognise creeping back in here, me-boyo? Works well damn-blast it!

It must be the effect of the wind and the sun that bleaches wood grey, because wood that actually touches water simply rots over time, ie black and pug-beautiful.

Yes Julie, to get technical the UV breaks down the structure of the cellulose, and the tannins to leach out as well.

I suspect that this one has had a bit of human intervention, aka a can of paint to ensure that it aged gracefully and evenly.

Tomorrow you may make up your mind on that!

Yes, I see few little guys.
What I like this is the colours blending to the scene, Good use of bokeh to eliminate distraction factor and that makes good colour blending.

great grains in the wood and I am so glad you pointed out the ants as then I saw them.

What a beautiful image - colours and textures work with that murky gorgeous background. I didn't see the ants at first. Your photo also blends so well with your new blog background.

That is a marvelous shot and I can see the little ants marching too! Not very fond of the little critters so I usually leave them alone.
