The peril of being a roof at the beach.
I suppose one could argue that the rust is merely part of the rich urban fabric, the hard-won patina that comes with age. But the reality is, it's just rust. It's what happens when one leaves a metal roof out in the salt air for a couple of decades.
Fortunately it's the roof of the much maligned and not much patronised "Big Top" shopping centre at Maroochydore, and the owners have announced an update programme involving the expenditure of many tens of millions of dollars.
I expect that by this time next year, the patina will be no more, but neither will the leaks.
Maroochydore.
