The Beauty of Decay

This month's City Daily Photo theme is "the beauty of decay".   I suspect I could have sought a pile of leaf mulch or perhaps some garden compost somewhere, but time and time again I have made comment on the newness of the environment in which I live.

The Sunshine Coast is a city desperately seeking patina, if there is decay it is new and unkempt and far from beautiful.

So I have sought out my first computer, sitting under the lathe in my shed as a symbol.  It sits there, a quarter of a century after it was at the peak of technology, wanting to decay, but it can't.

It just gathers dust.

It was once a beautiful object at the cutting edge of industrial design.  Is it still?

A beautiful object that was built to last - who knew how soon obsolescence would render it useless?? The fact so many newer objects are deteriorating more quickly is surely a sign of social decay??

Social decay indeed.... and yet we are "powerless" to act, or choose not to, because we like posting photos on the web. ;-)

Once these things were useful and then they got replaced and now their purpose would be a reminder of time and past...

Nice monochrome and love this take! The speed of technology outdates things in its own world so fast. (Though I hear some of the older Apples are selling for a lot - maybe there's new life yet in these grand old things:)

I can relate to the point you are making here. Beautifully illustrated I might add :).

Very creative take on the theme. Bless it's heart, it just wants to decay... but can't!

Lordy, lordy! I do hope you have not stashed every computer you have ever owned. Decay and inbuilt obsolescence ... and interesting discussion.

Wow, mine has long gone; first a mac, then a "fat mac", then ...

Great choice for the theme.

Ah we have got one of those too languishing in the depth of the house ... as well as the Osborne (luggable) ...in fact too many old computers. But like books they are old friends.
