Usually one tries to swim out beyond the point where the waves are actually breaking, or "out the back" as it's known. This gives one first go at the incoming wave, and keeps one away from other bathers.
Perhaps this doesn't apply in the peak of the summer holidays!

I envy them on the beach! It's minus 25 degrees Celsius today - probably even too cold to go outdoors to ice-skate here in EAGAN!
Wow, that's quite the popular place!
My God, so many people! Incredible.
This is like "Where's Wally" at the beach!
Crowded!
"Out the back" is VERY different from "outback", it must be added! My s coast nsw beach is deserted by comparison. But your water is warmer!!
Now that is a crowded beach!
What a crush of people! Looks like fun. Wait - are you out in the water with your camera?

No, I wasn't in the water. There's a bit that juts out far enough for the intrepid to get a shot.
Top summer shot.

I had forgotten the "colour" of busy summer beaches. You look like you have more sun up there than we are getting at the moment we've been in the clouds for a week.
WOW! Rush hour in the sea! :)
