On the dunes the casuarinas bend and break, grow and fall in a never ending cycle of trying to establish a forest but not quite succeeding. I feel really sorry for them actually. If they do succeed to hang on to life long enough to reach maturity, sure as eggs there'll be a cyclone come along and wipe away the very dunes in which they sit.
